GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the nearly empty Kentucky State Capitol filled with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs during a worship service led by Capitol Chaplain Kyle McDannell before the 116-year-old building closes temporarily next month for an extensive multi-million-dollar renovation that could last over four years. More than two dozen people, including state legislators, attended the event and McDannell said he expects to expand ministry with new office locations in Frankfort — a change that may offer fresh outreach opportunities — while urging local churches to continue their support.  Kentucky Today
  • Gov. Beshear announced nearly $8.5M in state funding on July 31 to support site and building projects in several counties — Laurel, Madison, Monroe, Pendleton, Russell and Scott — as well as a regional project in Muhlenberg County with additional county backing. The KPDI program will fund upgrades such as extending utilities and conducting due diligence studies to attract new businesses and create jobs.  92.7 The Wave
  • Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman filed a settlement proposal with LG&E—KU that will have the companies build two new natural gas combined cycle units and extend the life of two coal plants to keep prices low. The agreement also protects ratepayers by saving about $775 million and offsetting costs from a new gas plant on Dixie Highway.  WKYT
