COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear host a blood drive at the State Capitol's Capitol Rotunda from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.—it will be the last drive before renovations begin and is part of the American Red Cross Team Kentucky campaign that urges Kentuckians to donate blood.  WTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo Trace Distillery said it will open the John G. Carlisle Cafe in Spring 2026 on its grounds—giving visitors a new place to eat lunch with sandwiches, salads, soups and a kid’s menu. The cafe is under construction in the 4900 square foot Elmer T. Lee Clubhouse and will add a dining option to the distillery visit.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky community colleges will launch a mental health strategy to help nearly 100,000 students with anxiety and depression, following a 2024 survey that found many students suffer from these issues—KCTCS President Ryan Quarles said staff will be trained to spot signs of distress and colleges will offer programs like peer wellness to meet each campus’s unique needs.  LINK nky

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Tuesday that his office filed a lawsuit in Franklin Circuit Court to protect Kentuckians from Margaret’s Movers, a Louisville moving company accused of not returning stored items, damaging property, and failing to meet state certification rules. The court granted a temporary restraining order that stops the company from moving or selling items and may lead to civil fines up to $2,000 per case—up to $10,000 if a victim is age 60 or older.  Kentucky Today
  • The Kentucky Public Service Commission set new base rates for Atmos Energy on Tuesday that are lower than what the utility requested—denying a $33,001,164 increase and instead approving a $15,728,013 revenue boost along with a $5.70 rise in the residential customer charge and a 5% uptick in gas rates. The order also raises the annual cap on the Pipeline Replacement Program to $40 million for replacing older pipes.  Kentucky Today
  • Kentuckians are urged to plan for a sober ride over Labor Day weekend as the state launches the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign today through Sept. 1 — Gov. Beshear and state officials warn that impaired driving raises the risk of crashes and injuries during holiday celebrations.  Kentucky Today
