COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Liz and Ben Shemwell hosted a birthday box donation and packing party for the Marco Shemwell Foundation—giving local residents a chance to help pack donation boxes and support their charity work.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • A drive-by shooting at Kentucky State University early Sunday at 2:35 a.m. injured one person in the head and grazed another’s shoulder, which prompted a campus lockdown+damage to a vehicle and a building while police investigate an outsider.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 64 — which makes copper theft a Class D felony — to strengthen penalties and protect critical infrastructure. The bill follows recent theft arrests in Louisville.  WTVQ
  • On Monday, the National Volunteer Fire Council announced that three volunteer fire departments in Kentucky — Hargett Fire and Rescue in Irvine, Lewisport Volunteer Fire Department, and Sonora Fire Department — will receive $10,000 grants to purchase essential firefighting equipment under the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program.  Kentucky Today
  • On Thursday, the Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority said the new I-69 bridge project will connect Henderson and Evansville — the agency approved a financial plan and bi-state agreement with Indiana, and building of the river crossing will take place from 2027 to 2031.  Kentucky Today
  • Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman led a group of 21 state attorneys general that urged the DEA on Monday to schedule bromazolam, an unregulated drug linked to nearly 50 deaths in our state and known for its dangerous effects. Investigators had intercepted a parcel containing 958 pills— a step expected to give law enforcement stronger tools to remove the drug from circulation.  Kentucky Today
