COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On August 29, Officer MJ Byrd of Frankfort Police tracked two unsupervised children who wandered from a grandparent’s yard to East Frankfort Park after a panicked call, and his quick action returned them safely before a speeding car raised concern.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The PhotoVoice exhibit opening reception was held on Friday at Yes Arts in Frankfort from 5 to 7 p.m. It was presented by Yes Arts and UK College of Public Health and showcased local photographs that explore youth prevention and wellness in Franklin County.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams announced—at a press event—that Bluegrass Middle School student Alyson Marinich from Hardin County won the 2025 'I Voted' Sticker Contest after nearly 4,000 Kentuckians voted at the state fair from August 14-24. Hardin County will receive stickers featuring Alyson's horse and rose design—other county clerks may request them for the May primary election.  Kentucky Today
  • At Second Street School, second grader Maddox Proffitt was named WesBanco Student of the Week after making a big impression early in the school year. His teacher Melanie Minks praised him for being caring and helpful—especially when assisting classmates with math and showing a strong love for learning and sports.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police will boost extra patrols this Labor Day weekend under Operation C.A.R.E.—their teams will monitor highways for impaired, distracted and speeding drivers to reduce crashes and save lives.  WTVQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort High’s boys golf team is undefeated in the CKBC conference with wins over Sayre, Anderson County, Shelby County, Franklin County and Western Hills — Carter Denton led all matches as the medalist, and coach Lori Denton said the team has dropped 20 strokes in tournament averages. The Panthers will compete in the Lafayette 5-Star Invitational on Monday at Picadome.  The State Journal
