COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Frankfort community leaders are nearly finishing plans for a new Boys and Girls Club that will open in November to offer safe after-school programs from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday; volunteers have prepped the donated old Franklin County Health Department building—additional funding is still needed for a club director position.  The State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife biologist Michaela Rogers said local efforts to plant milkweed and wildflowers are supporting monarch butterflies, whose numbers vary each year — the state and community groups hand out seed packets and tag butterflies to track their migration to Mexico. These programs help create safe feeding stops for the butterflies on their long journey.  Louisville Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear said Kentucky’s sports betting system is doing well two years after it was legalized because it now stops unlawful betting and tracks gambling problems. State officials will offer a 30-hour training course in October+ online modules will be available to help train counselors for those with gambling issues.  LEX 18
  • Kentucky disaster survivors received over $100 million in FEMA aid for losses from 2025 storms and floods, including $63 million for February storms, $32 million for severe weather in April, and more than $3 million for May tornado damage. FEMA said it will continue to help survivors with recovery questions even though the application periods have ended.  WTVQ
  • Kentucky Educational Television cut 15 jobs and eliminated 21 positions after federal funding was removed—Executive Director Shae Hopkins said the network remains committed to serving the commonwealth.  WTVQ

  • LCDHD is offering free Narcan training to teach local community members how to reverse opioid overdoses—this initiative will equip attendees with essential emergency skills.  92.7 The Wave
