CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michael Hall, 48, pleaded guilty in Rowan County Circuit Court to threatening prosecutor Ashton McKenzie during a recorded jail call in October in an effort to affect his trial outcome — under a plea agreement he faces a recommended two-year prison sentence following his pending 15-year sentence for violent offenses. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Frankfort artists Martin and Sharon Matisoff will show their artwork in the Wesley Center Gallery at First United Methodist Church through October—Martin makes thread art and Sharon paints—and a reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the church. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, Kentucky State University hosted its third annual Ag Roundup event to teach middle and high school students about agriculture careers — the three-day program featured more than 50 interactive stations where over 1,000 students learned about both traditional farming and modern techniques. Students took part in hands-on activities such as petting zoos and drone demonstrations. LEX 18
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky tax revenues for the fiscal year ending this summer fell $7.5 million short of the target needed to lower the income tax to 3% in 2027—State Budget Director John Hicks confirmed this shortfall in a letter. Sen. McDaniel said the state was very near meeting the trigger while Gov. Beshear warned that tariffs and planned tax cuts might further lower funds. Louisville Public Media
- ➤ Kentucky’s 2025–26 deer season is underway with new rules from the state’s wildlife department. Youth hunters will have an extra week from October 11 to October 19—while changes include a special antlerless weekend on September 27 and 28 and a prize program for deer head testing. WTVQ
- ➤ Governor Andy Beshear warned that Kentucky might face a revenue shortfall because federal tariffs and a $359 million income tax cut are reducing funds — and officials will meet on September 16 to revise revenue estimates. WTVQ
