CRIME NEWS

  • A Frankfort man left two vehicles for repairs at a Holmes Street shop on July 20 and later found they had been scrapped without his permission when he discovered the lot empty on August 19—police are investigating the case.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Kentucky Supreme Court will hear arguments at 10 a.m. eastern at Centre College in Danville on whether a 2022 law funding charter schools like public schools violates the state constitution — the law was challenged in 2023 after a Franklin County judge ruled it unlawful to use tax dollars for non-public education.  Louisville Public Media

FINANCE NEWS

  • KPPA reported that investment returns for CERS, KERS, and SPRS for the fiscal year ended June 30 exceeded assumed rates—pension portfolios returned between 11.0% and 11.9% while insurance portfolios returned between 11.2% and 11.8%. The strong performance along with employer contributions and General Fund appropriations increased fund values by $3 billion to $29.8 billion.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Marianne Proctor said she will propose legislation in the 2026 Regular Session to criminalize grooming behavior that targets vulnerable children. The proposal will impose a Class A misdemeanor for a first offense when a victim is under 14 and even harsher penalties if the offender holds a trusted role — a measure driven by a constituent’s concern.  Kentucky Today
  • The Kentucky Supreme Court heard arguments at Centre College on Wednesday over whether official communications on personal devices fall under open records laws. Lawyer Michael Abate argued that text messages should be public while lawyer Jan West maintained that where records are stored determines their status—this ruling will affect future requests from agencies like the Fish and Wildlife Resource Commission.  Louisville Public Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County graduate Sophie Dufour of American University volleyball was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after she led her team with 54 kills in four matches last week—her season-high performance in a 3-0 sweep over Cleveland State contributed to the honor.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County's girls golf team won the Kentucky 2A state championship Monday at Owensboro Country Club by six shots over Allen County-Scottsville—FCHS freshman Mary Clayton Rodgers claimed the individual title with a one-over par 73 while sophomore Emerson Bowling finished as runner-up after a sudden-death playoff.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky will start redshirt freshman Cutter Boley against Eastern Michigan after quarterback Zach Calzada left an Ole Miss game with a shoulder injury—head coach Mark Stoops said Boley led most first-team reps in practice and is set to take the field.  WTVQ
