- ➤ The Bourbon on the Banks Festival will end with the Goodwood After Party on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion, 404 Wilkinson Blvd—featuring local favorite Kreek Water and Kentucky’s American Idol winner Noah Thompson as the headliner with free entry and easy parking nearby. - ➤ Kentucky State University hosted its 3rd Annual Ag Roundup from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, drawing nearly 4,000 people to hands-on exhibits, networking, and live displays along the campus Yellow Brick Road. The event celebrated the university’s land-grant mission and marked the 135th anniversary of the Second Morrill Act—featuring a keynote by Kentucky’s Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture. - ➤ The Kentucky Supreme Court heard arguments Thursday on whether taxpayer dollars can fund charter schools as state officials defended the law and school groups warned that the funds would be taken from traditional public schools — the decision will affect future education funding in our state. - ➤ Governor Andy Beshear updated recovery efforts for tornado and flood damage during his press conference last Thursday, noting that developers closed on three properties for nearly 300 new rental homes in the West while construction will begin in the coming months. He added that eight high ground communities are being built in the East to move residents out of flood areas and that the documentary Rising will premiere Sept. 18—showing the strength of local communities. - ➤ Frankfort’s Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 on Monday to buy a 31-yard automated side loader costing $378,407 to restore curbside recycling—Commissioner Richardson voted against the plan. City leaders are now weighing options including a solid waste management fee or privatizing services to cover rising operating costs of about $25 per household each month. The State Journal
- ➤ State Auditor Allison Ball said that the Kentucky Department of Education violated the U.S. Constitution by forcing faith-based preschools to operate as secular programs in order to receive state funds. - ➤ Senator McConnell announced that SAMHSA sent $706,113 to Kentucky to expand the Recovery Housing Program for people recovering from opioid addiction. The funding will help build safe transitional housing for young adults to reenter the workforce. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Franklin County’s girls golf team and Frankfort High senior Carter Denton will compete in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Championship at the University Club of Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday—teams are among the top 15 in the state and individuals rank among the top 21 based on qualifying tournaments. - ➤ Western Hills’ boys soccer team won their district opener with a 3-1 victory over Franklin County at FCHS—coach Marquee Dawson said it felt good to secure their first district win amid weather cancellations. The team will host Frankfort on Saturday at 8 p.m.—Franklin County will play at Manuel at noon. The State Journal
