- ➤ Commonwealth Credit Union will host a free Shred Day event on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Louisville Road branch at 1425 Louisville Road + residents can shred up to five storage-sized boxes per vehicle + they are encouraged to bring nonperishable food to support the Backpack Snack Program for students in need. - ➤ Industry leaders and state officials gathered at Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown Tuesday for a bourbon barrel selection and to discuss trade challenges from heavy tariffs and bans. Senate President Robert Stivers said state lawmakers planned to help the bourbon industry — a key part of the state's economy with record tourism growth. LEX 18

- ➤ Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins was sharply criticized by state lawmakers Tuesday over a $16 million budget shortfall and high travel reimbursements. - ➤ The Just Say Yes prevention coalition hosted the second annual ‘Find Your Yes’ Day at the Franklin County Health Department for sixth graders at the KSU Research Farm — offering more than two dozen free extracurricular activities and a $300 digital Yes Card voucher — to help middle school students explore sports, arts, and outdoor interests. - ➤ Tow truck drivers are backing a bill to add rear facing blue lights on tow trucks to boost safety after Troy Caldwell was fatally struck nearly a year ago on I-64 in Bath County. Bubba Johnson, owner of Bubba's Towing Recovery, led the push at a meeting in Frankfort—where lawmakers including Rep. Richard White will soon review the proposal. WKYT
- ➤ Applications are open for Kentucky State Police cadets as the state seeks recruits to serve communities statewide—especially in rural areas—with candidates required to be at least 21 and hold a high school diploma or GED plus work, college, military or law enforcement experience. Training lasts 24 weeks or 14 weeks for those with prior law enforcement experience and starts with a base pay of $69,500; troopers will serve on the road for three years before joining specialty units, and applications close in December. - ➤ Franklin County’s girls golf team played in two tournaments last week with the Lady Flyers winning the Kentucky 2A State Championship on Monday at Owensboro Country Club.
