- ➤ The Capital City Activity Center is hosting a week of activities from Sept. 22 to 26 that include billiards, exercise sessions like Bingocize with Carla and Tai Chi for Arthritis, as well as programs in knitting, drama club, and a health fair. Residents can check local listings for exact times (each event is scheduled with its own start and end time). The State Journal
- ➤ The Octoberfest neighborhood yard sale will take place on October 18 in the 300 block of East Third Street with a vendor fee of $5; those who want to be vendors can call 502-229-7199. This event is set to bring neighbors together in a community gathering. The State Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Immanuel Baptist Church in Frankfort will host its sixth annual Immanuelfest on Sept. 27—featuring free food, games, live music and a yard sale—on its front lawn at 1075 Collins Lane in front of Collins Lane Elementary School, where Sam Crowe will lead children's activities. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort High School drama club will present 'Comedic One Acts' as its first main stage show of the 2025-2026 season, opening this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and featuring performances on Friday, Sept 27 at 7:30 p.m. as well as a Sunday, Sept 28 matinee at 3:30 p.m.—the production includes parodies like 12 Angry Villains, DMV Tyrant and Murder by the Book. - ➤ Paul Sawyier Public Library has scheduled events from Monday through Saturday that include an adult collage workshop on Monday at 6 p.m., a DIY bird feeder session for families at 6:30 p.m., a tween photography club on Wednesday, an Excel workshop and silent book club on Thursday, teen crafts later that day, family reading on Friday at 10:30 a.m., and a lecture on Frankfort’s forgotten cemetery on Saturday at 1 p.m.—each event designed to offer creative and educational opportunities. - ➤ The Vienna Boys Choir will perform at the Grand Theatre in Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, offering a program of music from medieval to modern times—led by conductor Jimmy Chiang—supported by local sponsors and the city. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sen. Steven West—rep from Paris—said the new schools of innovation law lets local school boards work with outside groups to improve school operations and boost teacher pay. Some lawmakers worry the law might let charter schools serve only select students and reduce public control over education. LINK nky
- ➤ Drone Flight School and its DFS Drone Club will host Drone Discovery Day on Oct. 4 at Thorn Hill Education Center at 700 Leslie Ave.—The event runs from 11 a.m. to noon and features live flying demos to show how drones are used in agriculture and filmmaking. The State Journal
