- ➤ Jenna Cox won the Frankfort Rotary Youth Fund’s Queen of Hearts raffle on Wednesday at the American Legion on Versailles Road and claimed 60% of a $48,700 prize pot—while the remaining funds go toward scholarships for local high school seniors. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Western Hills crowned its homecoming queen and king on Sunday, September 21, during a school ceremony that celebrated student achievements—an event that emphasized school tradition and spirit. The State Journal
- ➤ Western Hills High School has begun building a new greenhouse (with improved irrigation, pest control and ventilation) that will expand hands-on learning in agriculture. Teacher Jeffrey Shaffer said the project will give students more practice with modern crop techniques and help strengthen the FFA program. The State Journal

- ➤ The Franklin County Fire Department used thermal imaging cameras to help firefighters see dangers in heavy smoke—assistant fire chief Erick Mertz said the cameras spotted a missing stair rail in a dark hallway that saved his crew. The department received a grant from the Kentucky Fire Commission to buy backup cameras for all trucks after the Fiscal Court approved the request. The State Journal

- ➤ Franklin County Regional Jail now offers a new NET Recovery Device to help inmates with opioid addiction reduce withdrawal symptoms without using substitute drugs—Kelly Dycus, a mental health clinician from Eastern Kentucky University, coordinates this program funded through opioid settlement funds. The device is available to anyone in active addiction seeking recovery without the harsh effects of sudden withdrawal. The State Journal
