COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New pedestrian wayfinding signage is now in downtown Frankfort to help locals and visitors find shops, restaurants and services—this project is a partnership between the Franklin County Community Fund, Downtown Frankfort Inc. and the City of Frankfort that follows a rise in tourism, events and new business openings.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bourbon on the Banks VIP Reception and Bourbon Auction will be held on Thursday, October 3 at the Kentucky Historical Society starting at 5 p.m., with Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman welcoming guests as they bid on rare bourbons. Proceeds will support Downtown Frankfort Inc. and local nonprofits such as L.I.F.E. House—helping preserve downtown historic charm.  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fifth-grader Molly Snodgrass started a Kindness Club at Collins Lane Elementary and was named WesBanco Student of the Week Tuesday, September 23. The club, which has 32 members, will pass out cookies to 500 students on Friday using donations from an online wish list.  The State Journal
  • The Kentucky Department of Education announced a major change in college testing when it awarded a contract to the College Board to administer the SAT beginning in spring 2026—after the state’s contract with ACT ended on June 30, locking in a cost of $30 per student over four years with potential savings of up to $350,000 annually.  WKYT
  • The Last Mile Education Fund announced an anonymous gift of $750,000 to help students overcome financial obstacles in Kentucky, Georgia — and Tennessee. The gift builds on over $13 million in support provided since 2020 to more than 10,500 students facing tuition gaps, car repair emergencies, and housing challenges.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky hemp farmers sent a letter to Sen. Mitch McConnell urging him to avoid adding language to future bills that would criminalize hemp-derived products. The group of 58 signers from 20 counties asked for an in-person meeting and warned that closing the legal loophole would hurt farms and rural communities—concerns rise as Congress approaches a spending deadline.  Louisville Public Media
  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is hosting a live auction on October 6 to sell surplus and confiscated hunting and fishing equipment at its headquarters on Sportsman's Lane—registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the auction starts at 9:30 a.m. with some items requiring a criminal background check for qualified Kentucky residents.  92.7 The Wave
  • Tow truck drivers across Kentucky will hold a memorial procession tomorrow to honor Troy Caldwell, who was killed one year ago on I-64 while working. They will gather at Eagle Travel Center — Exit 133 at 4 p.m. and pass his memorial near Exit 123 to support a proposed law for rear-facing blue lights on trucks.  LEX 18
  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will hold a live auction on Monday, October 6 to sell surplus items and confiscated fishing equipment at its headquarters on 1 Sportsman's Lane in Frankfort. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. ET and bidding begins at 9:30 a.m. ET—only qualified Kentucky residents may bid and items are sold as-is.  92.7 The Wave

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky leaders are monitoring Florida's plan to drop several school vaccine requirements that could change in about 90 days as state rules remain unchanged. Education and health experts say current protections are key for child safety & public health.  WTVQ
  • AquaStar Corp of Seattle is recalling three types of shrimp sold at Kroger and other stores in Kentucky and 30 states because they may have been exposed to Cs-137—this recall covers products sold from June 12 to September 17, and consumers who bought them should return or dispose of the shrimp for a refund.  Kentucky Today
