- ➤ Senior centers in Kentucky are reducing funding by 70%, which cuts vital services like meals on wheels for many seniors. The Clay County Senior Center will work with community partners to support residents (including 87-year-old Nettie Rawlings) despite these cuts (as director Carmen Roberts warns of challenges ahead). - ➤ The Salato Wildlife Education Center—just west of Frankfort—is hosting free admission tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for National Hunting and Fishing Day, with wildlife talks, hands-on demos, and free fishing poles for the first 50 children. Kentucky Today
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Franklin County posted a 3.8% jobless rate in August, which was lower than 4.7% a year ago and 1.3 percentage points below the rate in July; meanwhile, 119 counties showed a drop in unemployment while Martin County recorded an increase to 8.8%. The Kentucky Center for Statistics provided these figures to highlight recent trends in the state’s job market. The State Journal
- ➤ Kentucky State University hosted its annual Federal Reserve Luncheon Tuesday at the Carl M. Hill Student Center Ballroom where over 200 students, community leaders, elected officials, and bank representatives gathered to discuss finance and economic policy. The event, partnered with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, included speeches by Seema Sheth and Jimmie Gray (continuing a tradition started by Dr. Abdul Turay). - ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman issued an opinion today that affirms the PBM reform law from the 2024 General Assembly is enforceable to protect patients and independent pharmacies in Kentucky—rejecting the Beshear Administration’s interpretation and confirming that out-of-state PBMs doing business here must follow state rules. - ➤ FEMA in agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky will close Franklin County’s Disaster Recovery Center at 1 p.m. on Saturday—survivors of the April storms can still call or check online for help. The State Journal
- ➤ Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman and the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission said around 100 tickets remain for the Opioid Symposium, scheduled for October 13 to 14 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville—experts will offer over 100 continuing education units and sessions on treatment, recovery and prevention. - ➤ Franklin County's girls golf team finished fourth at Lakeside in Lexington as three FCHS golfers qualified for the state tournament Monday at Winchester Country Club.
