- ➤ On Friday, the cemetery crew found that six infant headstones from the late 1800s were knocked off their foundations when a vehicle left Section F late Thursday — police report that the damage seems accidental and repairs will be scheduled soon. The State Journal

- ➤ Frankfort’s Faves People’s Choice Awards results were published yesterday in the State Journal—showing the top three winners in over 100 categories for local businesses, service providers and individuals. Voters participated in several weeks of nominations and are invited to vote again next year. The State Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Unemployment rates fell in 119 counties and rose in Martin County between August 2024 and August 2025, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics — an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet — while Woodford County recorded the lowest rate at 3.5%. 92.7 The Wave
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Franklin County Schools passed its $93.1 million working budget for fiscal year 2026 on Monday at a special board meeting. The budget, lower than last year's $93.9 million, will fund two new buses and give a 4% raise for staff — marking the second consecutive year of the raise. The State Journal
- ➤ Jennifer LaFontaine was named Staff Champion of the Month for September at the Franklin County Schools board meeting on Sept. 8—her award honors her contributions to the school system. The State Journal
- ➤ Henry Thomas, a freshman tech aide at Western Hills, was named WesBanco Student of the Week and Franklin County Schools Student Champion of the Month for September. He began his tech training in eighth grade through a work-study program — a start that saw him balance honors classes with mountain biking on weekends. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort’s Kentucky Student Success Collaborative unveiled a statewide plan today to streamline college admissions by automating key processes—such as retrieving transcripts—and enhancing transparency of financial aid information. - ➤ John Arnett reported that a Garner Economics report recommends merging Frankfort and county governments to end overlapping services based on a survey of 250 local residents and comparisons with Louisville and Lexington. The 67-page report calls for forming a joint study commission to ask if voters support a single government as local growth slows — a move aimed to boost efficiency. The State Journal
- ➤ The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is installing speed cameras in highway work zones today—I-75 near Corbin, a U.S. 25 zone in Fayette County, and I-64 in Shelby—while drivers get a warning before tickets start in October.
