- ➤ Local resident Raven Turner and her partners will open a Crumbl cookie shop in Georgetown on Friday at 100 Ikebana Path — near Walmart, Jersey Mike’s and Planet Fitness. The business will offer extended hours and catering services as part of efforts to serve local residents and boost the area's economic growth. The State Journal
- ➤ Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort filled its nine millionth barrel of bourbon since Prohibition, marking a big milestone after a $1.2 billion expansion and recovery from April floods—local officials attended the event to honor its long history in bourbon making. WKYT

- ➤ Michelle Rare Soul Sexton, host and creator of The Power of One Voice podcast, said her show has grown into a movement that shares raw stories of trauma and healing—she uses TikTok and other platforms to build a strong community. She plans to take the podcast on the road to share Frankfort stories if sponsors and groups join her effort. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Last week, about 115 second and third grade students from Second Street School went to High Street and North Lexington Family YMCAs for water safety lessons and pool training; they also had a dry land session to learn basic survival skills. The program will continue with four more days of swim lessons and water safety sessions from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10 — organized by Swim With Purpose and the YMCA. The State Journal
- ➤ Three Bondurant Middle School students reached the top 10 nationally in the FFA agriscience competition last school year — the first time their school made it to the national finals. They visited the Capitol, received official awards from lawmakers, and now attend different schools while planning careers in agriculture, veterinary science, and Kentucky fish and wildlife. LEX 18
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection invites Frankfort residents to join Source Water Protection Week—running through Oct. 4—to learn how to keep drinking water safe. Dale Booth said simple steps like proper disposal of hazardous waste and conserving water help prevent pollution and reduce costly treatments. Kentucky Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a fiscal court meeting held Monday, the county heard the first reading of an ordinance to add a 2% transient room tax that will fund renovations for the Grand Theatre. If approved at the next meeting, the theatre will close from mid-January until spring for upgrades — excess funds will return to the county. The State Journal
- ➤ Sixteen new game warden recruits have begun a six-week training program at Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources, marking the largest class in over 10 years. They will later attend further training at the Criminal Justice Training Academy in Richmond and complete 10 more weeks—preparing them for future assignments across the state. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Kentucky has secured $17.8 million in federal funds to build EV charging stations statewide—part of a plan that will use nearly $70 million in NEVI funding to add stations by 2026, including five already open and three under construction for longer EV travel. Kentucky Today

- ➤ The Hillshire Brands Company is recalling about 58,000,000 pounds of corn dog and sausage products because pieces of wood were found in the batter—this action follows five injury complaints received by the company. The affected products, under the Jimmy Dean and State Fair brands, were packaged between Mar. 17 and Sept. 26 and sold nationwide to retail, food service, school and Department of Defense accounts. - ➤ Kentucky State University inducted Ronald T. Banks into its Sports Hall of Fame after he spent 40 years calling KSU football games as the Voice of the Horse—he helped engage the fans with his exciting play-by-play. The university will celebrate Homecoming week Oct. 6—11 with a game on Oct. 11 at Alumni Stadium. The State Journal
- ➤ The FCHS Flyers improved their record to 6-0 with a 35-13 win at Lincoln County on Friday. FCHS quarterback Knox Barrett completed 23-for-33 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns - teammates boosted the rally with additional scores. The State Journal
