BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo Trace Distillery celebrated filling its 9 millionth bourbon barrel after finishing a decade-long $1.2 billion expansion that increased production capacity by 150%—a historic milestone for the distillery and local economy. A Monday ceremony in Franklin County featured county and city officials while visitors can view the special barrel in the world’s only single barrel warehouse.  The State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Burning restrictions remain in effect statewide as the Division of Forestry began the fall fire hazard season on October 1 to reduce the threat of forest fires—residents must follow local guidelines.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials held a first reading on an ordinance to extend the 2% transient room tax to fund needed renovations at the Grand Theatre — if approved at the next court meeting the theatre will close after mid-January for upgrades. Officials also approved applications for county road repairs and a firefighting gear grant.  The State Journal
  • A federal government shutdown has reduced operations at Kentucky food pantries and the local health department since October 1—these organizations face delays in providing public services and are seeking ways to manage the shortage. Local officials are working to resolve the issues as the shutdown continues.  WKYT
  • October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is urging drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to follow strict safety guidelines as darkness falls earlier with DST ending Nov. 2—state officials note that last year 73 percent of pedestrian deaths occurred after dark and advise using headlights, crosswalks, and reflective gear. This campaign aims to help everyone get home safely as daylight shortens this fall.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort's Josh Tandy and Carter Denton advanced to the final rounds of the state golf tournament after a strong showing at Winchester Country Club Tuesday—Tandy tied for fifth with a 73 while Denton tied for 19th with a 76. The finalists will compete at Bowling Green Country Club on Oct. 10-11.  The State Journal
