- ➤ Michelle Gross, a math teacher at Spencer County Middle School, was named 2026 Kentucky Teacher of the Year at a ceremony Tuesday evening in Frankfort—she has taught for 22 years and instructs 7th-grade math and gifted classes. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Kentucky State University welcomed Nicole Sergent as its new General Counsel on October 8; she brings (20 years) of legal experience from higher education and state government and will guide the university in legal matters. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Secretary of State Michael Adams has been named a Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine — making him the first Kentuckian to receive this honor in a decade. LEX 18
- ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman and Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers announced that the Kentucky Court of Appeals upheld a law banning felons from possessing guns and ordered the Jefferson Circuit judge to reinstate charges against Jecory Lamont Frazier who had multiple past convictions—officials say the decision will help protect community safety. - ➤ On Wednesday, Kentucky’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Task Force met with insurance experts to find solutions that keep coverage affordable as natural disasters push up costs. Experts noted that every dollar spent on flood and storm prevention measures — like improved safety codes — can save four to 12 dollars in repair expenses. LEX 18

- ➤ Franklin County’s girls soccer team, which began with just three players, ended its season in the district semifinals after a 13-0 loss to top-seeded Great Crossing following a 5-2 win over Western Hills.
