EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Laeken Morris, a sixth-grade student at Capital Day School, was named WesBanco Student of the Week for her kindness and persistence in class – she also shows leadership by helping younger students, dancing, and serving as treasurer of the Student Council. Recognized for overcoming challenges like math, she stands out as a positive role model at her school. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that lane closures will begin Monday on I-64 in Franklin County for routine inspections of the twin bridges over the Kentucky River. Drivers will face alternating closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the eastbound & westbound lanes until Wednesday, Oct. 22. The State Journal
- ➤ KY 12 from mile point 11.4 near Polsgrove Road to mile point 12.4 near the Flat Creek bridge will be closed from 6 p.m. to midnight on Monday — KYTC will replace a cross drain and install a rock layer before new asphalt is laid — drivers must follow detour signs. The State Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Flu season has begun in Kentucky and public health officials urge everyone to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene—washing hands, covering coughs, and disinfecting surfaces—to help prevent severe illness as seen last season. Kentucky Today
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Frankfort native Wan’Dale Robinson helped the Giants beat the Eagles 34 to 17 by catching six passes for 84 yards, including a 35 yard touchdown in the first quarter — his season totals now stand at 29 receptions for 351 yards. The Giants will play the Broncos on Sunday at Denver. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort’s boys soccer team won a 1-0 district championship with a penalty kick scored by Stephane Bebe just before halftime at Franklin County—this victory gave the Panthers back-to-back titles and set them up to host their next match in the 11th Region tournament. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort’s girls soccer team lost to Great Crossing 5-0 in the 41st District tournament final + they have earned a spot in the 11th Region tournament for the second straight year. It is the first time the school has made consecutive regional trips + the team will play on the road in the first round. The State Journal
