COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Arnold Suter returned home from a local Kroger on U.S. 127 South yesterday with dinner and a $50,000 lottery win after buying a Fortune scratch-off—he later claimed his prize at lottery headquarters and said he will use the funds to pay bills and treat his grandchildren. The State Journal
- ➤ Downtown Frankfort Inc. will host the third annual Thriller Trick-or-Treat Celebration from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 in historic downtown Frankfort, inviting families to enjoy trick-or-treating, live entertainment and a Thriller dance performance by local dancers. The free event is presented by Investors Heritage (coordinated by Kentucky Dance Academy) and will offer a festive Halloween evening for all ages. The State Journal
- ➤ Salvation Army of Frankfort is asking community members to volunteer to ring bells at Red Kettles placed at local retailers including Walmart, Kroger and JCPenney across Franklin and Anderson Counties starting November 15 (and running through December 24). Volunteers sign up for easy, two-hour shifts (which help fund local food, shelter and hope programs) online. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Franklin County Fiscal Court voted to fund updates at the Grand Theatre—money from up to $1,800,000 in tax revenue bonds and a 2% transient room tax—with renovations set to begin after the first of next year. Other approved items include roadway improvements, employee healthcare changes, courthouse restoration, and a violence intervention prevention grant. The State Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday night at Sodexo Field, Leland Gantz kicked a 41-yard field goal in the final seconds to give Kentucky State a 17-14 win over Franklin Pierce—marking their sixth win this season. The Thorobreds have a bye this week and will return to action on November 1—celebrating Senior Day at Alumni Stadium. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County’s football team remained unbeaten after defeating Western Hills 77-0 on Friday at Benny Watkins Field, securing the district championship with a 4-0 record. Coach Eddie James said the team started fast and improved after a close game with Spencer County two weeks ago. The State Journal
