ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A recent study found that Kentucky had 8.43 highway crash deaths per 1 million residents on Halloween with rates 136.4% above the national average and children more than twice as likely to be hit by vehicles on that day. Kentucky State Police warn drivers in Frankfort and Franklin County to slow down and stay alert for trick-or-treaters on October 31st (6 to 8 p.m.).  The State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayette County Public Schools board members approved a request for proposal for an external audit on Monday during a heated meeting as part of efforts to review the district's budget amid ongoing challenges. The independent review may lead to further investigation if needed.  WKYT
  • Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education started CLIMB 2.0 to help high school students learn skills for behavioral health jobs. Eight Eastern Kentucky high schools can earn work certifications that lead to immediate jobs or further training — the program works with health services and local colleges — and it aims to build a strong local workforce.  Kentucky Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources announced a regulation that bans drones from being used to fish, hunt, or harass wildlife. The measure, which took effect Oct. 16, 2025, permits drone use only for state safety, law enforcement, research, management, wildlife damage control, and removal of invasive carp by approved users.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear and Congressman McGarvey warned that if Congress does not extend ACA tax credits beyond year-end, nearly 100,000 Kentuckians using Kynect may face up to 37% higher premiums in 2026—putting rural hospitals at risk amid federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Hills’ football team beat Shelby 46-35 on Friday to clinch third place in the district—earning a guaranteed playoff spot while Shelby was eliminated from playoff contention. Coach Matthew Dawahare said the team showed resilience as they prepare to play Frankfort Thursday at 7 p.m. and then open playoff action on Nov. 7 in Louisville at Valley at 7 p.m.  The State Journal
  • Three local cross country teams and one individual advanced to state after qualifying meets at Shelby County High School and Idlewild Park. Frankfort’s boys and girls teams finished third in Class 1A while Franklin County’s boys placed fourth and runner Lauren Pelfrey qualified — state championships are set for Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park.  The State Journal
