COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A nonprofit held its annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial service in Frankfort Saturday to honor Kentucky veterans who served, as director Jerry Cecil, a veteran, led the service that added Conrad Wheeler’s name to the memorial wall — a reminder that their sacrifice is not forgotten. LEX 18
- ➤ Frankfort Cemetery has been named an official location for National Wreaths Across America Day to honor veterans, and local groups plan to sponsor 2,500 wreaths on headstones on December 13 as part of a national movement with more than 4,900 sites and over three million volunteers. - ➤ The Capital City Activity Center will host a week of events from Monday, November 10th to Friday, November 14th that include Billiards, Bingocize with Carla focused on diabetes education, Exercise with Karen, Tai Chi for Arthritis, Corn Hole, Chair Yoga with Sallie, music with Rick Hanks, as well as Bridge and Drama Clubs and a senior meeting. However—Tuesday the center will remain closed for Veteran’s Day while Free Food Friday will offer morning food assistance and additional activities. The State Journal

- ➤ The Paul Sawyier Public Library is hosting a full week of free events for all ages. On Monday, November 10, grades K to 2 will join Nature Weaving at 4:30 p.m. and families can enjoy Family Origami at 6:30 p.m.—Tuesday features a Teen Homeschool Club VR Documentary at 2:30 p.m. for grades 6 to 12 and Paper Leaf Wreaths at 6 p.m. for adults, Wednesday brings Tween Engineering Day at 4:30 p.m. and Yoga for Beginners at 6 p.m. for adults, Thursday holds a Teen Advisory Group meeting at 6 p.m. for teens, and the library will close on Friday for staff training. - ➤ Western Hills senior Manas Garla was named WesBanco Student of the Week after he scored a perfect 36 on the ACT as a sophomore and was named a National Merit Semifinalist. He also serves on the Student Advisory Council to discuss education issues. The State Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Wildcats beat Florida 38-7 for their first SEC home win since Sept. 30 — their first 30-point conference win since 1998 — with Cutter Boley, Dante Dowdell and Seth McGowan leading the offense. The Wildcats will host senior day against Tennessee Tech — scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Kroger Field — next Saturday. WKYT
- ➤ Cooper defeated South Oldham 28 to 14 in a foggy KHSAA playoff game—an unexpected challenge from a top 5A team—and now the Jaguars will face Scott County in round two as they pursue a third straight trip to the state title game. LINK nky
