COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Candlelight Weekend kicked off in downtown Frankfort on Thursday with a grand tree lighting, festive music, and family activities presented by Commonwealth Credit Union. The three-day event continues through Saturday — with horse carriage rides, photo opportunities with Santa, and holiday shows planned for today and the coming days. The State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Katy Redmon, a second-grade teacher at Collins Lane, was named the Franklin County Schools' Staff Champion of the Month at Monday’s board meeting—her third year at CLE saw her build a classroom focused on respect and positive learning and her parents were there to support her. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort High and Second Street School were awarded Family Friendly Schools Certification by the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence for the fourth straight year, showing strong partnerships with families + community groups. A review by families, teachers, and community organizations confirmed the schools met standards for open communication and shared decision-making. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County Farm Bureau received a 2025 KFB Educational Mini-Grant to build two book barns for local elementary schools, a project funded through the Kentucky Farm Bureau Women’s Program (offering grants up to $500). Farm Bureaus in Fulton, Gallatin, Hopkins, Lawrence, and Oldham were also awarded one of six grants (a boost to agricultural literacy) announced on November 13. The State Journal

- ➤ Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell encouraged college students to apply for KDA's summer internship program (June to August) and gain hands-on work experience in agriculture and related fields.
