- ➤ Fifth-grader Joey Stephan of Westridge Elementary was named WesBanco Student of the Week when his creative logo design for McClain’s Landscaping was chosen—his design was picked from six entries in the school's annual contest. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky highway safety officials will observe Crash Responder Safety Week (Nov. 17 to Nov. 21) to remind drivers to slow down, move over, and stay alert so that first responders are kept safe. Gov. Andy Beshear said the updated law now requires drivers to give extra room to any vehicle showing flashing lights or warning signals. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Gov. Andy Beshear said that full SNAP benefits will hit EBT cards today for nearly 600,000 Kentuckians as new legislation ended the freeze from the shutdown (his team worked overnight to load the cards) and brought the support forward sooner than planned. Kentucky Today
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Blood Center will hold its 38th Big Blue Crush blood drive from Nov 17th–21st to boost the blood supply before Thanksgiving — the event pits Kentucky fans against Tennessee supporters at donor centers and mobile drives, including the Frankfort location. Donors can give whole blood in less than an hour, which may help save up to three lives. WTVQ
- ➤ The FDA and CDC, working with state and local partners, are investigating an infant botulism outbreak that has sickened 23 children, including one in Kentucky, and linked to contaminated ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula lots 206VABP/251131P2 and 206VABP/251261P2—no deaths have been reported. Parents and caregivers are advised to throw away the formula with a use-by date of Dec 1 and check package details if symptoms appear—testing and inspections are still ongoing. Kentucky Today
- ➤ On November 4 at the Grand Theatre, the Just Say Yes Showcase featured students and community members performing dances, cheers, and martial arts—trained by Yes Card partners that fund healthy activities for Franklin County youth.
