COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Franklin County Fiscal Court served a traditional Thanksgiving meal at ACCESS Soup Kitchen and Men’s Shelter on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, marking its third year of preparing over 80 meals for those in need. Court members worked side by side in the kitchen—demonstrating their commitment to fighting food insecurity during the holiday season.  The State Journal
  • A Frankfort nonprofit led by Pastor Don Jackson provided a free Thanksgiving meal and essential items to local residents using donations—offering homemade food, clothing, and shoes to those in need. The event also featured activities for children and a raffle to strengthen community ties.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky student-athletes involved in agriculture can apply for six scholarships and recognition as a 2026 Kentucky Ag Athlete of the Year through a program run by the KHSAA and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture — the awards include two $2,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships. Eligible graduating seniors must participate in KHSAA sports and submit their applications by Dec. 31, with winners announced in March at Rupp Arena in Lexington.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents were split during a Monday commission meeting on the updated Union Landing development proposal at 2063 Hathaway Road on the Robert E. Reeves estate — concerns over traffic, density, and rural charm surfaced as officials prepared for a final vote set for Dec. 15.  LINK nky
  • Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Tuesday a proposed settlement with East Kentucky Power Cooperative that will protect over 570,000 homes, farms and businesses in 89 counties by limiting residential rate increases to under $5 a month and barring further hikes for three years. The settlement, pending Public Service Commission approval, comes as the cooperative prepares a $2 billion plan to build two new power stations and upgrade an existing plant — a move aimed at fueling future growth.  Kentucky Today
  • Kentucky Lottery CEO Mary Harville announced her retirement after 22 years of service, with her exit set for February, and Governor Andy Beshear said she helped boost lottery sales by over $1 billion — naming current Executive Vice President Maggie Garrison as her successor to continue funding education programs.  LEX 18

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Kentucky is offering free online suicide prevention training (QPR training) to help Kentuckians learn the signs of suicide. The course aims to reduce youth suicide, which is the second leading cause of death for ages 10 to 34.  WKYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Highlands is trying to win its fourth straight district title with a faster style after losing its tall player—using senior Kaylee Mills, sophomore Maren Orme, and promising Katie Bucher. Meanwhile, NewCath, Bellevue, and Newport are changing their teams as Newport now has only eight players and will start its season on Dec. 2—facing a tougher schedule.  LINK nky
  • Frankfort native Wan’Dale Robinson wore his custom Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation cleats during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, where he caught nine passes for 156 yards and scored a touchdown—his foundation helps children and families impacted by incarceration.  The State Journal
