EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elkhorn Elementary’s third grader Karter Carter was named WesBanco Student of the Week and Franklin County Schools’ Student Champion of the Month for November. He earned praise for his academic work and helpful spirit at school — and he plays on the Rams football team.  The State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky State Police's annual Trooper Teddy Black Friday sale is underway, having started November 27 and running until December 2, with teddy bears priced at $20 available online and at KSP Posts. Each bear sold helps fund the Trooper Teddy Project that comforts children in hard times, and Gov. Andy Beshear said every bear becomes a helping hand + all proceeds go toward buying more bears.  92.7 The Wave
  • Kentucky State Police are holding their annual Trooper Teddy Black Friday sale from November 27 through December 2, offering teddy bears for $20 that help fund a program giving comforting gifts to children in crisis—a sale available online and at local posts with free pickup or optional shipping.  92.7 The Wave

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public health officials reported that a mutated strain of Influenza A H3N2 from the Southern hemisphere is now causing flu outbreaks and warned that the season could be severe. They urged everyone 6 months and older to get the trivalent flu shot soon, noting that antiviral medications work best when started within two days of symptoms.  Kentucky Today
  • OneQuest Health and NKU secured $100,000 in funding to create scholarships for NKU’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to help ease Kentucky’s mental health workforce shortage. The funds were awarded through the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund — including a $50,000 match — and will directly support students entering the field.  LINK nky
