- ➤ Reed Rhorer retired from the ACCESS board in June after 31 years of service at the local soup kitchen and men’s shelter; he began in 1994 and helped the nonprofit through challenges in 2024—he continues to volunteer by cooking and delivering groceries. The State Journal
- ➤ The Capital City Classic Auto Club held its annual October cruise-in with Independence Bank and donated a $600 check and toys to the Franklin County Fire Department. - ➤ Operation Secret Santa is launching its Operation Bikemas initiative to deliver refurbished bicycles to 220 kids across Central Kentucky this holiday season. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky road crews used a new salt brine — made with a de-sugared beet byproduct — to treat icy roads during Tuesday’s snowfall, and state officials said it works as well as calcium chloride while being more environmentally friendly. Kentucky State Police responded to over 500 calls as Gov. Andy Beshear urged drivers to slow down and give snow fighters the space needed to clear accidents on major routes. WKYT

- ➤ Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White is expected to leave his eight-year role with the Wildcats to join Jon Sumrall's staff at Florida — he will serve as the new defensive coordinator. The move, reported on X by Adam Luckett, may lead to White coaching against Kentucky when the SEC implements its new nine-game schedule. WTVQ
- ➤ Local high school sports teams face a busy week as Frankfort boys play away at Harrison County on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the girls play at Lexington Christian today while other area teams meet in tournaments, duals, and college matchups—adding to a packed schedule. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County’s Flyers have won six straight regional titles and three unbeaten regular seasons and will play Boyle County Friday in the Class 4A state championship game in Kentucky. The team ended Tilghman’s season in the semifinals but will miss senior Coen Taylor (who broke his arm) from the game. The State Journal
- ➤ On Tuesday night, Kentucky lost 67—64 to North Carolina at Rupp Arena in a game that saw 14 lead changes and nine ties, with new coach Will Stein introduced to the team. The Wildcats will try to get their first big win when they face Gonzaga Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Nashville on ESPN2. WTVQ
