COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After losing her son in a distracted driving crash, Lindsey Brown launched the Tristan Project with Exodus Driver Training to offer free driving courses for local teens using simulators that show the dangers of texting while driving, and she hopes the effort will help lower teen traffic deaths in Kentucky.  LEX 18

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KCEP) reported that living costs—including housing and groceries—have risen while wages have stayed at $7.25 an hour, pressing local families. They noted that if wages had kept up with inflation, workers would now earn nearly double their current pay.  Louisville Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Launched by the Kentucky Student Success Collaborative and the University of Kentucky Research Foundation, a 12-month study will examine why KCTCS graduates do not pursue bachelor’s degrees. Led by Dr. Jungmin Lee with support from a $25,000 grant, the project will survey graduates and conduct focus groups across the state.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky households can apply for the LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) Fall Subsidy through local Community Action Agencies until Dec. 12 to help with heating costs. The one-time benefit varies by income, fuel type, and housing category.  92.7 The Wave
  • Kentucky officials are moving ahead with updated regulations that will list concentrated 7—OH supplements as Schedule I substances after federal personnel seized about 73,000 units from firms in Missouri. Gov. Beshear said the action will help remove these unsafe products from local shelves soon.  Kentucky Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • After Thanksgiving, the Kentucky Blood Center is short on blood and urges O negative donors to visit Lexington centers as hospital needs rise. The 45-minute donation process (which can save up to 3 lives) is critical amid increased demand.  LEX 18

SPORTS NEWS

  • Franklin County’s wrestling team hosted the Frankfort Duals on Saturday and finished fifth amid several high school teams. Coach Sean House (FCHS) said the match gave the team a chance to assess their progress, with boys winning bouts against North Oldham, North Hardin, and Nelson County.  The State Journal
