COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Juniper Hill Golf Association donated $12,500 from the WesBanco Governor’s Open results to eight local organizations and six high school golf teams during a Tuesday ceremony at its Juniper Hill course. WesBanco President Ryan Newcomb and JHGA officials outlined support for local groups.  The State Journal
  • Hank the Horse is traveling across Kentucky and nearby states to raise funds for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign, helping families during this holiday season. He has raised over $2,500 (and aims for $10,000) as he collects donations along his route.  WTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo Trace Distillery hosts its 27th annual Holidays at the Trace from tonight to Dec. 31 with festive light trails, holiday shopping and a drive-thru light show on its historic grounds. Guests enjoy a free family experience with optional cocktail upgrades for 21+ — reservations required.  The State Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded over $12.6 million in grants for 80 projects (including four in Kentucky) to boost local economic growth. The awards support STEM work-based learning, nonprofit training, economic research, and land use planning for students and local officials.  Kentucky Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky lawmakers are closely watching Fayette County Public Schools ahead of the legislative session beginning January 6 due to concerns over large budget shortfalls and unapproved spending. Representative Grossl plans to file legislation to end taxpayer-funded lobbying as a special audit (expected to release spring findings) works to improve transparency.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor’s Mansion is now a winter wonderland with five Christmas trees showing both formal and personal touches (like family-made ornaments and a dog in a Christmas sweater) as First Lady Britainy Beshear led a tour for state employees to enjoy the holiday decorations and family traditions.  LEX 18
  • Frankfort officials issued an RFP for design and cost estimates for a new natatorium and wellness center on a 3.75-acre site at Cold Harbor Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Firms must email proposals by today, and an optional site visit at 2 p.m. Dec. 12 is available.  The State Journal

  • The top-seeded Kentucky volleyball team beat Wofford in straight sets and will face UCLA tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Historic Memorial Coliseum — Brooklyn DeLeye led with 14 kills.  WTVQ
  • Scott High athletes secure prep commitments as volleyball star Milyn Minor commits to Lincoln Memorial and guard Noelle Price earns a Division I offer, while Morgan Justice and Dixie Heights’ pitcher Kyle Flynn and Ludlow’s catcher Jackson Mays bolster a strong season — reflecting a thriving local sports pipeline.  LINK nky
