COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ United Way of the Bluegrass launched its 10th annual Sweet Dreams Project as volunteers from across Central Kentucky packed bags with pajamas, books, food & hygiene supplies for students ahead of winter break. The bags will be picked up Sunday and delivered to school resource rooms in 10 counties. WKYT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Franklin County junior Garrett Roe was named WesBanco Student of the Week on Friday for his leadership as the FFA Chapter Reporter and commitment to academics, mentoring peers and volunteering with his church. His passion for science comes from a retired teacher in his family (his grandmother). The State Journal
- ➤ Gov. Andy Beshear said 43 local chambers of commerce signed a letter supporting his Pre-K for All plan during a press conference today and urged lawmakers to prioritize access for 4-year-olds in the upcoming Budget Session. GOP lawmakers still have questions about the proposal. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Second Street School was transformed into a winter wonderland by volunteer parents during Thanksgiving break; decorations including Whoville scenes and a Polar Express delight students and staff and will be removed during winter break. The State Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Motorists are advised that KY 12 (Flat Creek Road between mile markers 11 and 9 near Onans Bend and Polsgrove Roads) in Franklin County will be closed every Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to midnight starting Monday for cross drain replacement work. Drivers must follow posted detours. The State Journal
- ➤ Contract crews will close the left lane of I-64 East near U.S. 127 and Hanly Lane from 7 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for bridge work as part of an I-64 improvement project (including milling, resurfacing, and repairs). Drivers should plan for extra travel time. The State Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ FDA warns that imported cookware made of aluminum, brass, and specific alloys (Hindalium) may release harmful lead into food, putting children and pregnant or breastfeeding women at risk during cooking. Retailers and consumers are advised to stop using these products to prevent exposure. Kentucky Today
- ➤ The Kentucky Department for Public Health reported 566 whooping cough cases in 93 counties in 2025 (the highest since 2012) and three infant deaths, warning that timely vaccinations protect infants and the community. Kentucky Today

- ➤ Franklin County's Flyers lost 34-0 to Boyle County in the Class 4A championship game on Friday night at UK's Kroger Field. Coach Eddie James said the kids worked hard & left a lasting mark on the program. The State Journal
- ➤ Franklin County’s boys basketball team lost to Collins 51—44 on Thursday, with Porter Peale scoring 13 points amid a tight contest. The Flyers now face Pineville today at Great Crossing in the Jersey Mike’s Subs Hoops Classic. The State Journal
