  • Kentuckians gathered at the Old State Capitol on Thursday morning to honor military veterans during National Wreaths Across America Day. The ceremony placed wreaths at U.S. military flag bases and featured remarks from the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (commissioner Whitney Allen) to remember local heroes.  WKYT
  • Kentucky Youth Advocates released the 2025 Kentucky KIDS COUNT Data Dashboard today, showing that while child poverty declined statewide from 22.3% to 20.2%, food insecurity rose from 15.2% to 21.1%. Fayette County data indicate mixed outcomes in education, rental burdens, and health (agency report) to guide local decision-making.  WKYT

  • Franklin County Fiscal Court magistrate Kelly Dycus, a licensed counselor, explained that local drug addiction poses serious risks and noted that an opioid settlement-funded NET Recovery Device (using small electrode vibrations to stimulate the brain) offers a new treatment approach.  The State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Wednesday night’s 35th District rivalry game in Park Hills, Notre Dame edged Holy Cross 43-41 in overtime in a low-scoring affair with neither team leading by more than five points — the win strengthens Notre Dame’s postseason seeding prospects as both teams prepare for upcoming matchups.  LINK nky
  • Western Hills' girls basketball team won a close 75-72 game over Nicholas County at WHHS on Wednesday, improving their record to 3-1. Bry’e Wolfe led with 24 points and Malia Campbell added 16 as the team prepares to play Boyle County at home today.  The State Journal
  • Franklin County’s girls basketball team won its first season game Wednesday in Paris by defeating Bourbon County 54—39. La’Kyiah Taylor led with 17 points and the Lady Flyers will face Southwestern Saturday in the Patriot Classic at Lincoln County.  The State Journal
