  • David Thompson, who led KPA for 42 years, has announced his planned retirement. The association is now searching for his successor and will accept applications through Dec. 31.  Kentucky Today
  • Kentucky newsrooms are testing artificial intelligence in news production. Beth Mann, CEO of Edge Media Group in Cadiz, said her staff reviews AI for research and press release rewrites (some worry it may limit creativity) as local papers adjust their policies.  Louisville Public Media
  • Kevin Masters spent a snowy Friday morning shoveling sidewalks for neighbors in Frankfort — a simple act of kindness that helped the community and came before he returned to Access Frankfort Men’s Shelter where he now stays after moving from Chicago.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fifth grader Stella Martin from Collins Lane delivered a standout performance as Annie in the Lawrenceburg Children’s Theatre production of Annie Jr. on Friday, Dec. 12, after months of preparation.  The State Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kroger will build a $391 million distribution center in Simpson County (expected to create about 430 full-time jobs) and local leaders praised the move as a boost to the economy.  Kentucky Today

  • At Westridge Elementary, fourth-grader Cole Cummins won the school’s T-shirt design contest—prompted by a community request—and was named WesBanco Student of the Week on Friday.  The State Journal

  • The Kentucky men’s basketball team held its first full-roster practice on Thursday+ head coach Mark Pope noted players returning from shoulder, ankle and knee injuries. They will face Indiana tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. inside Rupp Arena.  WTVQ
