COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Paul Sawyier Public Library hosts two adult events — a discussion on Kwanzaa set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. led by Focus on Race Relations and PSPL and a yoga class for beginners on Wednesday at 6 p.m. that requires registration at pspl.org.  The State Journal
  • Capital City Activity Center is hosting a week of activities from Monday through Friday, Dec. 15 to Dec. 19 that offers exercise classes, bingo, games and health checks from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Community members can join diverse programs including creative classes and social events.  The State Journal
  • A Frankfort couple, L.T. and Lois Harrod, celebrated 70 years of marriage built on shared faith and family values. They began their journey in 1954 (wed on Dec. 16) and have left a legacy cherished by generations.  The State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bluegrass Theatre Guild staged the play Ratatat Man: The Little Drummer Boy Comes of Age last weekend at The Grand. With over 500 attendees and month-long rehearsals, director Bill Payne and producer Shawn Reaves coordinated live music and set design (key elements of a festive production).  The State Journal
  • Lee Cruse and Jeff Caldwell will perform a holiday comedy show at the Grand Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m. with Caldwell stepping in for late comedian Mike Armstrong + tickets cost $30 and $40 and the event is sponsored by Serafini.  The State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local gardening guide published Saturday, Dec. 13 advises gardeners to share winter forecast details by Tuesday, Dec. 16 (deadline) as changing warmth and early snow alter planting schedules, recommending garden changes from Dec. 17 to Dec. 19 and gravel pouring starting Dec. 20.  The State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky’s first fully licensed medical marijuana facility, The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam, opened Friday, letting patients access cannabis legally for the first time. Gov. Beshear shared photos of the event, marking an important milestone in the state’s medical cannabis program.  LEX 18

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kentucky's 2026 football schedule reveals seven home games, including contests with Alabama, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Florida plus three non-conference matchups. Will Stein debuts on Sept. 5 against Youngstown State and the season concludes on Nov. 28 with a rivalry game against Louisville.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky Volleyball advanced to the Final Four after sweeping Creighton 3-0 in the Elite Eight, with key plays from Brooklyn Deleye and teammates. The team will next face the winner of Texas versus Wisconsin in Kansas City.  WKYT
