- ➤ The Cram the Cruiser drive raised over 25,000 pounds of food last weekend for the Emergency Community Food Pantry, with local law enforcement agencies sponsoring the event and officials presenting a $500 donation to boost seasonal supplies. The State Journal
- ➤ Simon House received a donation from the Frank W. Sower Community Trust Fund on Tuesday, Dec. 16 to support its mission of providing stability, dignity, and hope to individuals and families facing homelessness (a key community support effort). The State Journal
- ➤ Salvation Army in Central Kentucky is in its final week of the Red Kettle Campaign, a key fundraiser for shelter operations (and Angel Tree projects), and seeks volunteers to ring bells and collect donations to help reach a $190,000 goal. WKYT

- ➤ A family in Liberty lost their home to a fire Monday, Dec. 15, leaving six members without shelter and launching a GoFundMe to cover immediate needs (the older, uninsured home was a total loss). WTVQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four Franklin County residents graduated from Leadership Kentucky today after completing a year-long program with sessions held statewide; the graduates include Lauren Hogan, Lauren Holder, Kathey Sanders, and Sonia Sanders+ nominations for the Class of 2026 are set to open online in January. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is accepting natural Christmas trees for its Christmas for the Fishes program to create underwater habitats that protect and attract fish, including young fish for shelter and sport fishing. Trees are accepted from Dec. 26 to Jan. 16, 2026 (37 drop-off locations statewide). WKYT

- ➤ Nominations are now open for the Governor’s Service Awards to honor Kentuckians who have improved community life. Submit nominations online until Jan. 6 for a ceremony in Frankfort in April. Kentucky Today
- ➤ The City of Frankfort Division of Solid Waste released its holiday trash and recycling schedule for the next two weeks. Residents must set out trash by 6 a.m., note holiday office closures, and expect extra pickups on Tuesday, Dec. 30 and Friday, Jan. 2. The State Journal

- ➤ Malia Campbell of Western Hills earned Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week after posting double-doubles in four games before Tuesday's win over Nicholas County. The sophomore averages over 12 points and 12 rebounds while leading the Lady Wolverines. The State Journal
- ➤ Frankfort teams have a busy sports week with home games set Thursday through Sunday. In boys basketball, the Panthers host Vestavia Hills on Thursday in the Berea Holiday Classic while girls teams play Friday against Sayre and Saturday against Williamsburg + Frankfort Christian Academy schedules home games Thursday and Monday.
