- ➤ Franklin County fire officials urged residents to clean chimneys after a house fire earlier this week started in a chimney — quick action from the homeowner prevented major damage. Officials stress that creosote buildup from wet logs or construction debris can lead to dangerous hidden fires. WKYT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky American Water will raise its average residential bill by about 14% as the Public Service Commission approved a rate increase that adds $6.82 per month and sets a minimum of $19.89 for customers; more than 139,000 accounts statewide will soon face the change. WTVQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky’s specialty license plate promoting pet spaying and neutering was unveiled Tuesday by Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell, featuring a playful design by Lexington graphic artist Hayli Strickland (kitten and dog images) on a green background. Proceeds support the Animal Control and Care Fund for spay and neuter grants. LEX 18
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Town Food Service Equipment Co., Inc. is recalling four sizes of aluminum saucepans sold in Frankfort and other areas between Jan. 1, 2023 and Nov. 30, 2025 because tests revealed they may leach lead (a health risk) into food. Consumers should return the items for a full refund. Kentucky Today
- ➤ Kentucky Blood Center is offering movie tickets to donors at eight centers from Dec. 17 to Dec. 31 to ease a critical blood shortage affecting 70 hospitals statewide. Donors receive tickets for a local theater (all blood types are needed, especially O-negative, O-positive, and A-negative). WTVQ

- ➤ Kentucky offensive lineman Jalen Farmer declared for the NFL Draft after choosing to forgo his remaining college eligibility, leaving head coach Will Stein to fill a key gap on the offensive line. Farmer transferred from Florida (after two seasons) and thanked both programs in a social media post. WTVQ
- ➤ Western Hills' girls basketball team improved its record to 5-1 with a 42-32 win Tuesday at Scott County. Sakota Wilder led with 14 points while Malia Campbell added 11 points (plus 17 rebounds) as the Lady Wolverines prepare to host Madison Southern at home Thursday. The State Journal
