ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Kentucky Center for Statistics reported that unemployment rates for September 2025 changed across counties, with 116 counties lowering their numbers while three saw increases. Cumberland, Scott, Shelby & Woodford recorded the lowest rates at 3.7%, and Martin County had the highest at 8.5%.  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The historic Ten Commandments monument was restored to its place on the Capitol grounds in Monument Park after House Joint Resolution 15 passed during this session; it was originally gifted in 1971 by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky retailers are rushing to secure tobacco licenses required by Senate Bill 100 before January 1, as the application portal opened only in mid-November. About 1,500 of 7,000 businesses have been approved while technical glitches and confusing paperwork delay the process.  WKYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort High’s girls basketball team lost its district opener to Great Crossing — falling 90 — 16 at F.D. Wilkinson Gymnasium Tuesday and will host Sayre Friday and Williamsburg Saturday.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky Wildcats beat Wisconsin Badgers 3-2 in a five-set match that sent them to the NCAA championship game. They will face Texas A&M on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.  WKYT
  • Local high school basketball tournaments begin today and continue through Dec. 30, with teams including Beechwood, Bellevue, and Boone County scheduled to play at venues (such as Madison Southern and Campbellsville). Fans should check local schedules for game matchups.  LINK nky
