  • Frankfort's Modern Woodmen of America named L.I.F.E. House volunteer Melanie Moore a Hometown Hero on Sunday, Dec. 28. Moore, who works 10 to 15 hours each week at the shelter, received a gold necklace, flowers and $100 to donate to her chosen charity.  The State Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the area between Lancaster and Richmond on Dec. 28 at 12:47 p.m., the US Geological Survey reported.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Frankfort Heritage Lecture Series spring season is unveiled with a lineup of pop-up talks on local history including the Kentucky River, Liberty Hall portraits and Black women’s confinement in the gilded age. Events run from Saturday, Jan. 10 to Saturday, April 11 with talks at 1 p.m.  The State Journal
  • Dan Ergler tracked a 104-year-old wood fragment from the 1921 Curtiss Jenny crash on March 7 that killed two soldiers, bringing it from a Pennsylvania attic to Fort Knox. The artifact will be featured at the Cultural Heritage Center display to honor our aviation history.  Kentucky Today

  • Governor Andy Beshear reported on Sunday that a 3.2 magnitude earthquake shook Garrard County near the Garrard/Madison County line at 12:47 p.m., and the Lincoln County EMA confirmed no damage from the shallow 8 km quake.  LEX 18
