The Kentucky Public Service Commission approved EKPC’s plan to build a new $1.37 billion combined cycle gas turbine unit at Cooper Station near Somerset—this project will add 745 MW of capacity, new transmission lines, and a 40-mile gas infrastructure extension by December 2030.
The commission also backed retrofits costing $260.8 million for existing units and modifications to DSM and energy efficiency programs that will increase first-year investments to $7.49 million in 2026.
