A nonprofit held its annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial service in Frankfort Saturday to honor Kentucky veterans who served, as director Jerry Cecil, a veteran, led the service that added Conrad Wheeler’s name to the memorial wall — a reminder that their sacrifice is not forgotten.

Frankfort Cemetery has been named an official location for National Wreaths Across America Day to honor veterans, and local groups plan to sponsor 2,500 wreaths on headstones on December 13 as part of a national movement with more than 4,900 sites and over three million volunteers.

The Capital City Activity Center will host a week of events from Monday, November 10th to Friday, November 14th that include Billiards, Bingocize with Carla focused on diabetes education, Exercise with Karen, Tai Chi for Arthritis, Corn Hole, Chair Yoga with Sallie, music with Rick Hanks, as well as Bridge and Drama Clubs and a senior meeting. However—Tuesday the center will remain closed for Veteran’s Day while Free Food Friday will offer morning food assistance and additional activities.

Western Hills senior Manas Garla was named WesBanco Student of the Week after he scored a perfect 36 on the ACT as a sophomore and was named a National Merit Semifinalist.

He also serves on the Student Advisory Council to discuss education issues.
