  • Donations at Rupp Arena's Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign are urgently needed as central Kentucky ramps up support before Christmas Eve. Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jack 'Goose' Givens visited Tuesday — urging local donors to help more families this holiday season.  LEX 18

  • Tammy’s Diner remains closed as co-owner Dan Cook recovers after an emergency procedure — his family launched a GoFundMe to support the diner and pay employees during the busy holiday season.  WTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources will accept natural Christmas trees from Dec. 26 to Jan. 16 at 37 donation sites to create underwater fish habitats in local lakes. The trees free of decorations will be anchored to support wildlife (each tree enhances local fish cover).  Kentucky Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet activated a new traffic signal at U.S. 60 and Capital Center Drive on Monday in Franklin County. Temporary electronic message boards and updated pavement markings help drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern.  The State Journal
  • Kentucky’s MAHA Task Force unanimously approved a set of recommendations for lawmakers to consider when the General Assembly convenes on Jan. 6. The guidance, focused on healthy food access, physical wellness, and functional medicine (developed with input from state health advocates) may shape future legislation.  Kentucky Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cooper girls basketball repeated as champions at the Queen of the Commonwealth with a 59-52 win over Henderson County Monday, and Holy Cross boys improved to 9-0 after winning the Gateway Holiday Classic. Campbell County girls won in overtime and St. Henry rallied to claim the Mercer Tourism Christmas Clash.  LINK nky
  • Western Hills’ sophomore Matt Dicken scored 27 points in the season opener and was named Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week. He also scored 30 points in a 75-70 loss to Danville in the Capital City Classic and set key season milestones.  The State Journal
